FILL, LIVE AND TRANSFORM THE PUBLIC SPACE THROUGH THE BODY

This instant action has been carried out during the Free Car Day in Barcelona, held in the framework of the European Mobility Week. The initiative aims to promote healthy urban environments through a drastic reduction of the private mobility.

Our proposal, has been conceived as The Skin of the City, a cooperative founded by members of Lemur, Arquect, Living Devices Lab and some independent professional, and active between 2015 and 2017.

The action starts with a question to pedestrian: How should we live if the city would take into the account our body needs in order to design urban spaces?

The answer comes through an active exploration of the street, eyes closed, facing a set of unexpected materials, textures, objects trouvés…. Or playing street game in a place normally forbidden. The result is a micro ecosystem in the middle of the street, temporary closed to traffic, that provokes a thought, even a imperceptible psycho-physical reaction.

TOOLS

ATB activities, street game; objects trouvés; evaluation techniques.

OUTCOMES

  • An opportunity of free play in the street
  • Strong communicative impact with a clear political message of public space vindication
  • A collaborative approach to urban planning
  • An experience of empowerment for children
