DECIDING FABRA I COATS
This process takes place In the framework of the participatory process “Deciding Barcelona. Fabra i Coats, a space open to Sant Andreu” promoted by the municipality of Barcelona with the aim to define the urban caracteristiques of the Fabra i Coats area and its future uses. The results have contributed to the writing of the master plan for the transformation of the area.
Due to our previous experience, we are required to make possible children participation. Our aim is to let emerge the children’s and families perspective, generally not sufficiently taken into the account in a standard process. According to our body driven design method we do it through play.
This project is also the opportunity to test our BDD method as a useful tool for strategic planning.
Once activated a network of agents, our proposal consists of two short street actions open to the whole public but especially conceived for children and young. The first one, called “landscapes”, aims at allowing a sensorial exploration of the place through a series of temporary playgrounds located in strategic places of the area. The mapping of the free mouvements and reactions of the participants let us understand the interactions between body and space and in which way architecture influences people wellbeing.
The result of our observation shows a lack of some kind of uses and places. Our second proposal, called “visions”, is meant to a co-creation of provisional settings to explore new spatial opportunities in order to respond to those needs. An important aspect of this action is the use of row and not structured materials to improve children creativity through free play, limiting the intervention of adults.
